What is a launch? After almost 3 years of specialising in launches, this is still one of the most common questions we get asked. And it's a great question!

Launches can mean different things to different people and can also look very different depending on the aims and methods of those launches.

In short, for us here at the launch strategist, a launch is a 6-24 month activation campaign that positions and propels an organisation to its next level of growth. For us, we don't just focus on marketing. Our launches are based around our 6P framework: -

  • Purpose and Positioning - what is the organisation's purpose? And how can this be communicated in a way that is attractive to their target market?
  • Product - what do they need to create or enhance in order to support their positioning?
  • People - who do they need on their team to support the product and positioning?
  • Promotion - how will they get the word out about their product?
  • Processes - what processes need to be in place to prevent over-reliance on people
  • Profit - how can we maximise profit for the organisation?

We work on three core types of launches.

Launch to start:

Launching to start a business is probably the most commonly held view of what a launch is. Here at the launch strategist, we work with start-ups that are set up as established organisations, for eg. a business with a board of directors, and has a strong pre-revenue projection upward of £1 million. Here we help with their go-to market strategy.

Launch to grow:

Launching to grow is where we help businesses that want to take their business to the next level. For some companies this may be going from a national to international presence, increasing the number of offices they operate from or adding a new division or product line.

Launch to exit:

This type of launch is often regarded as the most surprising. Launching to exit are for organisations that will be sold within the next two-three years. These organisations want to reposition and almost relaunch the business to appeal not only to traditional stakeholders like clients and talent but also to investors as well.

These are the three core areas that we apply our 6P framework to, and that fit within our overarching definition of a launch, which is "a 6-24 month activation campaign that positions and propels an organisation to their next level of growth".

Now you have an understanding of what we mean when we say launch, and how this definition fits within our framework of the six Ps, you may start to see how a launch could benefit your organisation - no matter what stage it's at.
